If we really named who’s actually interested in Kuminga, there are probably 17 teams out there, though some more than others.ĭo I see him on the Warriors next season? Yes. Who wouldn’t want a 6-foot-7 freak athlete wing with some high upside offensively, and he’s shown flashes of being an incredible individual defender… If you’re around the league and you see him out of the rotation in the playoffs, you’re probably thinking this is a perfect buy low candidate in a league obsessed with wings. We know the Warriors have checked in on OG Anunoby dating back to the deadline. I know in the past, the Raptors have had conversations. Slater: The Pacers clearly have checked in. There have always been a handful of teams that have always called on Kuminga. Scotto: Jonathan Kuminga drew trade interest from several teams, including the Indiana Pacers, which centered mostly around draft pick compensation, I’m told. ![]() At times, I think he really struggled with the Jordan Poole experience because he was fourth in the league in turnovers last season, and you look at his shot selection. If you know Kerr, he loves a traditional point guard. Chris Paul leads it with Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody maybe will be in it and can benefit from having a traditional point guard. ![]() I think that’s what Kerr envisions his second unit next season being. They’ve had a lot of veteran, methodical, slow it down type of units. Andrew Bogut played the David West role too. Andre Iguodala would play backup point guard at times. They used to run high post plays for David West. But I think people forget that over the entire Steve Kerr era, the Steph Curry minutes without him were very different stylistically. He’s not speeding and getting the ball up the court to jack up threes. Slater: There’s been a lot of talk about the idea that he doesn’t necessarily fit stylistically because he’s a heavy pick-and-roll guy, and the Warriors are low pick-and-roll. He’s going to have a green light and a ton of shots with a chance to grow and be the guy there on a team in a full rebuild. If you’re someone who plays fantasy basketball, you probably will look to take those Jordan Poole points. He’s more of a halfcourt guy, especially last season with the Suns. Chris Paul coming in is an interesting fit because he’s not a transition guy anymore. Scotto: Everyone knew Golden State had to shed a big salary if it was going to keep the core together, and Poole was the odd man out. Slater: Somebody behind the scenes said, “Four years? How about four days?” had his first press conference as Warriors general manager and said, “With his contract extension, we’re planning on having him here for four more years at least,” nobody around the league really believed that, and sure enough he was traded days later. Slater: I basically heard when they made the Marcus Smart trade that ended any pursuit of Green. I think there was a report about the Grizzlies too. There was talk maybe about the Pistons because of the location and since Green played for Michigan State, but I don’t really see that at all. Scotto: If he got a multi-year deal in the $25 million range, maybe something like that… When you look at some of the teams that have been floated out there for him, Mike Brown with Sacramento, I can get him wanting to have a reunion, and he’d be a guy who’d fit well there on paper, but they’ve got their sights on other targets with the Kyle Kuzma reports out there, and they had to figure out Harrison Barnes. You don’t make that move and bet on the present if you don’t believe and almost know that Green is coming back. To me, the Jordan Poole for Chris Paul move was a blinking light that all indications are that he (Green) is coming back. The Warriors, from Steve Kerr to Mike Dunleavy, came out and said they’re not championship contenders if he doesn’t return.Īt this time of year, there are certain moves that indicate what might be coming. He was adamant during the postseason, right after the series, that he wanted to be back. All signs continue to point to him returning to the Warriors. His exterior market has included several Western Conference contenders that have at least sniffed around on him. I think the Warriors would like to trim that down because every $1 million the Warriors save is $7-9 million in tax with their crazy bill. A ballpark price is where I think the haggling might be at this point. ![]() ![]() When he opted out, it told you he felt he had a market that was at least near the $27.6 million that he declined for next season. It gives Draymond Green a level of security. That lines up with Steph Curry’s current contract. Slater: Three years has been the conversation from the beginning. Scotto: The Warriors are “optimistic” about re-signing Draymond Green, a league source told HoopsHype.
